According to a Deloitte survey, 65% of Chief Information Officers now report directly to the CEO, an increase from 41% a decade ago. This shift indicates that CIOs are increasingly viewed as key players in driving business strategy rather than just managing technical operations.

The survey reveals that 80% of technology leaders report that their roles and responsibilities have expanded to align with business objectives. This transformation positions CIOs as architects of business advantage, integrating technology to drive growth and innovation.

The research shows a divided perception of tech departments, with 52% of respondents viewing them as revenue generators and 48% seeing them primarily as service centers. Notably, two-thirds of executives at large firms consider tech as a revenue driver, compared to less than half at mid-sized organizations.
